What I loved about Cinderella's Castle is it is so entirely about Ella. We know starkid can handle a show with tons and tons of characters but I found it quite refreshing for it to be so wholly her story? I think it was a lovely choice for this show and man Bryce did such a perfect job of it, she is truly such a star

since i’ve been posting about van a lot, i figured i would give jackieshauna a turn because they’re my doomed babies and i love them

goddddd…. CODEPENDENCY!! jackieshauna is such a perfect example of it because it is really 100% true on both sides of the situation. since we want to focus on shauna, per your request, im going to start off by saying shauna’s codependency with jackie is obsessive. everything in her life in some capacity has something to do with jackie. shes with her 24/7, she makes all her decisions with her in mind, she’s fucking jackie’s boyfriend, for christ’s sake. i am one of those people who truly believes that not only was shauna pretending she was similar to jackie when she was cheating with jeff, she was pretending jeff was jackie. jeff is the closest she could sexually get to jackie, and so she betrays her best friend to be closer to her. 

now when i say this, i’m not saying shauna didn’t look up to jackie and wasn’t jealous of her. she very much was, in some way or capacity. but speaking from experience, in queer relationships, especially homoerotic codependent best friendship, there’s so much gray area between wanting to be that person or be with them. i’ve struggled with it, you’ve struggled with it, it’s a curse every queer person has to bear at some point. this hits shauna HEAVY. she tells jeff to say that he loves her- and this can have many meanings. since it’s up for interpretation, i can think of a few reasons why she says it. 

number one, validation. she wants it, and she wants it from jackie. everything she does has to be approved by jackie, even if sometimes she doesn’t think so (for example, the red dress scene, where she says she doesn’t want to wear it but ends up showing up in it anyway because she wants jackie’s approval). number two, like what i said before, she’s pretending jeff is jackie. she wants to hear that jackie loves her. she wants to feel jackie inside her (foreshadowing) and wanting her, all of her, not just the parts that don’t need fixing. and number three, she wants to be like jackie. she wants jeff to want her too, because she is just as good and beautiful and perfect as jackie. she craves an equality between them, that although we knew it was there, she never did. 

shauna continues to stay codependent on jackie her entire life. jackie follows her like a shadow, creeping into every corner and every moment in her world. shauna still hallucinates her, in all her highschool senior soccer captain glory, in her forties- 25 years after jackie’s death. she relies on seeing her, in some strange way. in the taylor’s house, for example, when she sees the memories of the two of them in real time and smiles like it’s the only comfort she’s had in months. jackie is shauna’s solace, no matter how much it hurts that she is.

wrote this a tad bit intoxicated so i’m kind of rambling here, but i hope this suffices xoxoxo im sorry for making you wait!! this isn’t even mentioning the whole cannibalism storyline, which is a huge part of jackieshauna and it deserves its very own post, so stay tuned for that?! til next time on yellowjackets bonfire stories with sophie 💋
